Children in all countries of the world are precious. But those who must overcome great odds hold a special place in our hearts.

The rapid migration of families from rural areas surrounding Lima into the city has generated many social problems and left thousands of children homeless or neglected.

But, thanks to our host partners, loving and safe "homes" give vulnerable children in Lima a chance for a fulfilling future. Global Volunteers works in partnership with public and private children's homes to offer compassionate support in a number of ways. Your assistance goes a long way here!

What's more, through our partnership with an impressive English Language Center accessible to students of all means and backgrounds, you're able to help deliver valuable English skills which can be a passport out of poverty for many. Whether working one-on-one with "at-risk" children, or serving as a classroom resource, you have an unprecedented opportunity to help others while immersing yourself in a complex and colorful culture.

"Miracles do happen each day and Global Volunteers has an appreciable percentage of them! I feel I have attained a more complex view of South America. I learned that Peruvian people work very hard and that human needs are a constant."

Peru Work Projects

Global Volunteers' unique philosophy of service ensures your work projects help advance the host community's current development vision and goals. Always serving at the invitation and under the direction of host community partners, each Global Volunteers team member works alongside local people, and personally contributes to needed project financing through their service program fee. Our long-term commitment to work in partnership on sustained community development projects enables you, in just a short time, to serve as a critical link in a chain of lasting community enhancements.
Labor and construction:
For volunteers who like to roll up their sleeves to make a difference, several pressing labor projects have been identified for immediate attention. Assignments will be made in the areas of painting, carpentry, window and light installation, gardening and general building maintenance.
Help at-risk children grow and develop.
Working with two childrens' homes, you can interact with toddlers and pre-schoolers who need you to help them with simple activities:

    arts and craft projects
    outdoor recreation
    reading and singing
    preparing for bedtime

Volunteering In Peru Also, adolescents and teens need help with homework, skills-building exercises, and simple recreational activities to enhance their growth and development.

"The first time we saw the girls from Santa Rosa they all came running to us for hugs and kisses. It was wonderful"
~Laura McLaughin, Canadian Volunteer to Peru
English teaching:
At La Molina Language Center, you can teach English language skills to university students and faculty in English conversation workshops stressing some of the "finer" points of the common use of English; such as colloquial expressions, phrasal verbs, expression of opinions and ideas, etc. Volunteers create basic curricula and identify materials that are used to build upon by volunteers on subsequent Global Volunteer teams.

You may also be asked to teach English language skills to students in the fifth through 12th grades. Most students have had little English language exposure, but are eager to try in small groups.

Any native English speaker can be of service on this project. You are not required to have professional classroom experience.
