The Serengeti Plain, the Great Ruaha Rift, and the Masai and Hehe tribes - these natural and cultural wonders of Tanzania can transport you to a world without pressures or worries. Sadly, the human realities within this beautiful region are startling: High infant mortality, poor health care, and low literacy rates stemming from extreme poverty.

In the Iringa district, needs are immense and resources are few. Since 1987, we've worked in partnership with local leaders to bring human and economic resources to children and families in small villages in one of the most impoverished countries in the world. You can make a significant difference here in many ways. Join our team and become a lifeline!

1 testimonial about this trip

  1. Reviewer: Dana Starace-Nastasi located in NJ
"The experience allowed me to re-assess what's truly important. These people may not have material wealth, but they have a cultural richness and a closeness that could never be bought or owned. I taught children who barely had clothes covering their bodies who were happy and laughing. Their smiles were the largest things about them. A warm smile truly transcends any language barriers and creates memories that linger long after the experience has ended."

Tanzania Work Projects

Global Volunteers' unique philosophy of service ensures your work projects help advance the host community's current development vision and goals. Always serving at the invitation and under the direction of host community partners, each Global Volunteers team member works alongside local people, and personally contributes to needed project financing through their service program fee. Our long-term commitment to work in partnership on sustained community development projects enables you, in just a short time, to serve as a critical link in a chain of lasting community enhancements.

All our work projects center on education - from classroom teaching and public health instruction to school building and repair.

    English Teaching
Teaching in Tanzania Many volunteers are needed to teach beginning through intermediate English pronunciation and conversation in high-school classrooms. English is the language of instruction throughout Tanzania. However, in the remote villages, comprehension is limited. Work alongside local teachers and students during the school year in remote partner communities. You can also provide basic computer training on computers donated through volunteers' efforts.
    Health Care
Physicians, nurses, dentists and physical therapists may be able to serve part-time at rural clinics performing non-invasive examinations and well-baby checkups. Health care students and other practitioners can offer public health education classes and basic instruction to rural health care workers.
    Construction and maintenance
Volunteers are always needed to help paint classrooms, build dormitories, install water systems, and assist with other labor tasks related to the repair and expansion of the village school facilities.

All volunteers, regardless of age, skill and professional background can contribute to the on-going work projects in Tanzania. Our hosts make certain your skills and interests are put to the best use on long-term community infrastructure, teaching and medical projects. Your efforts will help ease the suffering and engender hope for the future of students and their families. Lend your heart and hands to make a world of difference!
